Current Events Term 1

Current Events Term 1

In Current Events I covered these topics:
  • The design of the Halswell Skate Park and I made a submission to the council.
  • Donald Trump’s Refugee Plan
  • Christchurch Earth Memorial
  • The new Ngā Puna Wai Sports Facility
  • The Red Zone and Avon River Regeneration Plan with a submission to the council.

My favourite topic was the skate park because I thought it was cool saying what our ideas were to the council.

Here is a link to my learning on the Red Zone and Avon River Regeneration Plan.

The Reading National Standards I have achieved are
  • Year 9/10
    • As I read I can make decisions about the usefulness of the text for the purpose - Eg: by using a variety of criteria to evaluate

E1. Complete over 2000 IXL questionsat your standard (9/10) over four weeks. Excellence #1

For this homelearning challenge I figured out that I had to do about 72 questions a day and 500 a week to complete all the question. I made s doc to say all the days I have done questions.
Here is the doc
I started this on the 16 of March and finished it on the 12 of April.

Garden to table Excellence #5

On Wednesday my class had garden to table it was our last session.
We firstly sat behind the little kids because they were in a circle.
Then the kids came to one of us and they chose a sunflower or a poppy and my buddy chose a sunflower.
Next they coloured in a picture of a sunflower.
Then we helped them make a pouch to put the seeds in.
After that they put the sunflower seeds in the pouch.
Finally we said good by to the little kids.

I showed respect by letting her do what she could.

I was also being trustworthy by looking after her and not letting her do what she wanted.

Key Leadership role Excellence #4

On Tuesday we had a leadership meeting were all of the student leaders catch up.
The first thing we did was dicuss how our role was going and if we had been doing what we had done in the term from our leadership description.
Then the house captains were talking about if they were doing the flags and most of them were doing them.
Next Mr Ladbrook asked who had there merit and I do.
The people that didn't have there's didn't get to do the game in the afternoon.

I showed respect by listening to Mr Ladbrook even if it didn't aply to me.

I was also being an active thinker by listening incase it suddenly alpyed to me.

Term 1 Novel Study

This term I have been reading and studying the novel The dragon keeper By: Carole Wilkinson

I found this novel ok because at the start it wasn't very interesting but as you went on it go a little bit better but not amazing. If someone aked me if it was a good book I wouldn't recommended it but thats my opinoin.

During the novel I had to complete two major assessment tasks. The first is an Explain Map which shows the consequences of a major event in the book. The second was a Describe++ Map (Inference map) which shows I how I have connected prior knowledge and other experiences to what I have been reading to make an inference.

National Standard this covers

  • Year 9/10 Standard
    • I can monitor my understanding as it develops during my reading, and adjust my strategies to address any comprehension problems Eg: If I don’t understand a passage I have read I can re-read it, read-on, use pictures or diagrams, or explore the meaning of some of the vocabulary.
  • I can use strategies to analyse ideas and information and to reflect critically on the meaning I am gaining from my reading. (Eg: I can think about the meaning of the information and ideas and how this fits with what I think)

Garden to table Excellence #4

On Friday my class had garden to table it was our second to last session.
I partnered up with Anneke and we had eleven little kids to show them where the chickens, garden beds and the compost is around the school.
Then we showed them a slide show that had a quiz about all the garden tools are and see if they knew what they were called.
Next we showed them the slide and they got about five right which is good I guess for five year olds.
After that we showed them one on compost to see if they knew what could be compost and what can't.
Finally we said good by to the little kids.

I showed respect by making sure we had all the kids not just leaving some behind.

I was also being trustworthy by being back at the right time to say good bye.

Technology Excellence #3

On Thursday the year 8's had technology we traveled on two buses to get to Lincoln primary school.
It was our last session in wood work so we all had to get our speakers finished.
The first thing I did was touch up some of the panit that I had done the other  weeks so that it loked better than it did before.
Next I I kept on doing that on each colour.  After that it was time to go to manderain, at manderain we were learning about how to say different foods and  drinks.
We also got given a sheet and we had to say the sentence that we learned. Then we shared with a partner and filled in the gaps.
After that I connected all the cords and finished my speaker finaly.
